A STORY THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD…

Isabel Allende, esteemed author of The House of the Spirits, once wrote that there are stories that should not be forgotten. Marciana Ciresi discovered one such story while visiting Argentina in 2003.

Thousands of war-weary immigrants left Italy after World War II hoping to find a better life in far away Argentina.

It was there in the university city of Cordoba that she first heard the story of how weary Italians, fleeing the chaos of World War II, left their homeland to seek new lives in the prosperity of distant Argentina. The story both fascinated and haunted her.

Thus began a journey that led Ciresi to explore the depths of authoritarianism and the soaring courage of the human heart. Her pursuit of this lost piece of history filled her library study with forgotten books and faded magazines. Slowly a story began to come into focus, a story of deceptions and half-truths masked by religious hypocrisies and political oppression.

As her research grew, she knew she had to return to walk the streets of Cordoba to put the story into true historical context. There among the historical buildings, the forgotten story became even more alive. Each street seemed filled with echoed whispers of “Remember us.”

Ciresi’s own rich Italian-American heritage, extensive travels and professional talents and background more than qualify her to tell this pivotal tale of truth and terror, a story that reaches from Hitler’s cruelty to the courage of a mother’s heart.

A perennial student of history and culture, her interests have led her to the hallowed halls of Harvard University and beyond. An active advocate of social justice, she has seen first-hand the tyranny of hate and humanity’s indifference to suffering.

Today Ciresi divides her writing time between her two homes on picturesque Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington State and her studio in warm and sunny Sedona, Arizona.
